It’s been a year, she sighed. A very long year.
Do you remember when you were a kid, and a year took FOREVER? Now that you’re all grown up (whatever that means,) each year plods along with its predictable rhythms and predictable outcomes. Valentine’s Day has become nothing more or less than the predictable chocolate exchange.
When is Easter this year? So SOON? Better get on that, since you know the kids like that one candy that sells out.
Spring, summer, fall, and winter. Over and over again. Does it need to be so...predictable?
Of course not. But yes. Oh my DOG, the same things over and over.
But are they really?
Every day and every minute, we’re someone new. Each time we inhale some fresh air (whether from the stale confines of the office or from the glorious sweeping vista of some exotic locale) and our body trades a bit of its oxygen for carbon dioxide in some perpetual dance of non-monetary exchange, we are new. In a tiny, tiny way, we renew on a constant basis. We seem to do the same things over and over again, but they are somehow, strangely, different.
How long has it been?
Ages. It’s been ages.
